Been riding several times a week. Rodeo and Ace seem like they enjoy it quite a bit! We got a new boarder a week ago, and I let her ride Ace to show her the trails around the farm. Went to my favorite trail along the creek and stopped and talked and let the horses graze in the pasture for a few minutes. It was about a 30min ride, short but sweet. It was nice and quiet, peaceful. Rodeo and Ace behaved excellently, and were literally perfect. I really lucked out with these two. Another ride planned tomorrow, I believe about 4-5 of us are going, should be a good time! :)
Rodeo and I have ridden in a lot of small group trail rides, but nothing over 8-10 horses, and they were always horses he was familiar with. Today we had a trail ride at our farm, and close to 20 horses rode! Many he didnt even know, as always, he was great! A potential boarder rode Ace, and Rodeo was super forward and in the lead majority of the ride! It was a lot of fun! A few pics are below, to see even more and even a video, find Wilson Valley Stables on Facebook! Many pics of Rodeo are snuck on the site :D
A potential boarder was supposed to come out and take a look at the stables and decide if she wanted to move her horse here or not. We are being really selective on who boards here now, so I offered to let her come along for a ride on Ace. After last time someone else rode Rodeo, Ace will be the horse for other people to ride, and Ill just stick on my Rodeo!
She didnt end up coming, actually cancelled out on my 20min after she was supposed to be there, luckily, a past boarder was there and was willing to come along and ride Ace! It was a great ride, close to 80 degrees, if not 80. Cloudy with a nice breeze, just perfect weather really! Rodeo was super forward, honestly, the most forward he has ever been, and he was a lot of fun! He actually broke into a nice forward trot on the way home and was in the lead for quite some time! I was very impressed with him! Even saw a rainbow!
Last minute I was able to get a group ride together today! Since Rodeo had such an attitude with the other horses last ride, I decided to take him! He pinned his ears at one horse, and after that was great! We had a great ride, it was perfect weather, nice and warm with a nice breeze but still cool in the shade. Really couldnt have asked for a better day, we found a great trail off the Rails to Trails and it led to a beautiful open field with some outstanding views of the river! I even tapped into Rodeo's speed a little bit and it turns out, he can actually move faster than he lets on! Really just a perfect day! The type of day that completely destresses you, to where you forgot about everything you worry about and just be in that moment!
Shout! Im a week behind! So quick catch up, last weekend we went on a group ride. I started out on Ace as he has a good bit more go than whoa, which as you know is quite the opposite of Rodeo, a friend of a few boarders rode Rodeo. It was going pretty well for the most part, Rodeo was keeping up with the group pretty well, and I even found that if I held Ace back a little bit Rodeo would speed up a good bit more. So I think there could possibly be some unreleased speed somewhere in Rodeo! How neat that would be to tap into! Anyways, here and there Rodeo would pin his ears back and try to bite other horses, not too terrible until we started to head back. He ended up trying to bite another horse, the girl pulled his head away, which of course pushed his butt over to the other horse. Next thing we know hes double barreling at the other horse.
So I asked the girl to switch horses, I got on Rodeo, she hopped on Ace, which to be honest, I think she would have preferred from the beginning but oh well. My saddle was on Ace and my new saddle was on Rodeo, I had the stirrups adjusted for the other girl, who had much longer legs than I do, well me being lazy, I didnt feel like adjusting the stirrups. I didnt realize just how much longer they were until we started riding and my feet couldnt even step into them! So I ended up riding about 3-4mi back home with no stirrups! lol Great workout for sure though!
Rodeo pinned his ears at one more horse, I corrected him and that was it, back to his normal non-marish self pretty fast! So besides kids riding him, I think Ace is going to be the horse for other people that want to ride, and Rodeo will remain my horse as he always has been, which is completely fine with me. There is a strange feeling that you get when a horse you have primarily ridden for the past 6years gets ridden by someone else. But on the other hand, I was concerned that Ace would be too much for new/other riders, where in reality he is completely fine for anyone! Good to know!
Besides that not much has happened over the past week, I put Rodeo in the large boarder pasture to ensure he wouldnt continue his mareish attitude with the actual mares! lol He did fine, his best friend was actually the mare he tried to kick and bite on the ride! Go figure!
As always, please go on facebook and find Rodeo Time on there to follow some of his events, or find us on instagram too! My account is csimkunas6. Give me a follow as I upload quite a lot of Rodeo pictures on there!
