Oh my goodness!!! I cannot skip any more than 1 day in a row of not going to the barn, I just have been under the weather lately so havent gone to the barn, and then the weather was nasty, so didnt go again, so I knew I had to go today, and did. Rodeo was so naughty! After I lounged him a bit, I brought him back into his stall, and he turned his butt to me, so I smacked him, I am sooooo glad I was not in the kicking range, because that was one kick that would have broken some bones! I worked with him as far as picking his feet up go, this has been bad in the stall in the past, so I thought it would be the perfect place to work with him on it, and he was good, fought me a bit at first, but than caught on rather quickly, as usual! Hopefully the next time I go out will be nicer weather, and better behavior :D
Since Ive bought my Western Bridle, thats the only bridle Ive had on Rodeo, so I decided to see how he looked in an English bridle....he looked great! Ill have to upload so photos of him in it here shortly, I ended up ground driving him in it, and he did wonderfully! Stopped, backed, turned left, right, trotted, slowed down, ect, ect, like he has done it hundreds of times!!! Cant wait til the next time I get to go out there, Id say Monday, but who knows maybe tomorrow :D
Rodeo was great today!! I couldnt have asked for a better pony, I set two barrels up, just wide enough for him to go through, and I lounged him back and fourth between them, he did great! Then I set up a little cross rail, not big, trust me! And lunged him over that maybe twice each direction. The woman that works at the barn said she thinks Rodeo and I would be great to do tricks. She thinks Rodeo would catch on super fast, due to how smart he is, and I think we will give it a go! Have plenty of time before we start riding anyways, so why not! Stay tuned for "Rodeo, America's next Trick Pony!!" LOL, just kidding, seriously though, how incredible would it be if Rodeo and I got good enough to be in movies and what not?
Had it out with Rodeo today. Just asked him to do a few things, lunge to the left and right, and he was not having it, kicked at me, tried to run me over, ect, ect. SO therefore, we had a lesson on respect, getting, and staying out of my space!!!! Once that was over he was an angel, I had to get pretty "loud" with my body language, as asking wasnt working, I had to tell him what to do, or he would not do it. Definitely a good lesson, that I think both of us needed!!! After that, he was great, just had to get a little refresher :D Going out to the barn more often, as I do not want to reteach respect to this extent anyways, day after day!!!
I hate when people go to the barn in sandals...well guess what I did today? I know how bad it is to go in sandals, but today to be honest, laziness got the best of me, and well cleaning out my car the other day didnt help. I usually keep a pain of socks in there, just in case, well since I cleaned my car, I didnt have any extra socks. Luckily, I wasnt planning on doing much with Rodeo, ended up just taking some pictures of him. He is so hard to get good confo shots of, Ive tried to have confo shots as he gets older, which I have done pretty well at, but sometimes, like today, its close to impossible to get him not to follow me, hes just a curious little bugger!!! Family's coming down here today and tomorrow for Thanksgiving, if they want to go out and see him, Im sure we will, hes just so well behaved for me, for the most part! LOL
So I went for my first Gaited Trail Ride today! It was amazing! I rode a horse at the barn named Blue, a big hefty, thick boned Tenn Walker gelding. What a great boy he was too! I thoroughly enjoyed it, but still wouldnt trade my baby for one :)
After I got back there was a bday party going on, so I decided to take Rodeo to the puddle that he always follows me around. We worked on going in it, and turning around in the middle of it, at first, he kind of tripped, and fell into it, and then jumped out pretty fast. But I asked him again, and soon enough he was walking through just fine. From what the people at the barn have been saying, Rodeo's Thoroughbred side has been coming out! How exciting!!! I would love a horse that has his quiet, and his forward moments, and he seems to be just that horse!
Hoping to remember to bring a plastic bag out there with me and work on that again, havent worked with that almost since I got him, so that should be interesting!
Well Rodeo proved to me today that he is NOT a horse that can be left alone for a few days. He was beyond horrid today, but all my credit goes out to my farrier, he worked him through it!!! The first and only farrier that has. I have quite a bit of work ahead of me until the farrier comes out again, but he did a fantastic job on his feet!
I went back out after work, just because I couldnt believe how naughty he was for the farrier. Of course, we didnt have any problems. Farrier also said that his knees are just about closed!! How exciting!! So I worked Rodeo a bit, and seemed to really enjoy it, he was beyond full of it!!! Still waiting for word from Home Depot, or Lowes......I really need to be able to work him everyday, and having him here would let me do that easily!!!
Another slow day today, I went and got Rodeo from the pasture, brought him next to my car, and gave him a good grooming. I need to take a video of him when he first sees me, its the cutest thing! He starts nickering, sometimes even neighing, and comes trotting up to me. Of course, I always give him a mint, but thats always been our thing. I never thought Id be the treat giving kind, but I am! His ear is healing up wonderfully too! Farrier is coming out Friday morning. His feet are looking big too!!! Looking forward to see how the farrier goes, and Im hoping that he doesnt have to twitch him again :)
I was exhausted after the trip to West Virginia, but I was able to go out and see Rodeo!! Hes getting his fuzzies in, I love them, and hate them at the same time if that makes any sense! He's still breaking out in the rain rot, its really starting to annoy me. I almost want to say its being caused by his thick coat already, and some days are still reaching up to almost 80!!! So that cant be good for the poor guy, he did not like M-T-G what so ever when I put it on, and to be honest, it didnt work as well as I thought. But like I said, he didnt like it one bit, so none of that. Going out to work with him tomorrow, farrier is supposed to come out Friday in the am, so we'll see how that goes. Still waiting to see if Home Depot, or Lowe's will approve me for our big project, if not, we'll only have to wait a month or two to start it. Im beyond excited about that! Not only will we save at least $200, but hubby even says I can get a second horse!!!!! I so hope I can, as if I can, I can ride the one horse, pony Rodeo and let him grow up a tad!!!
Rodeo was full of it today! There was a lesson going on, so instead of doing what he wanted, and keeping him busy, which I usually do, I made him stand still next to me while I watched some of the lesson! He watched the other horse like a hawk, and tried to steal some grass, as usual the entire time. But besides that, he did great! I really do believe when the BO's daughter's tell me he is better behaved than the other horses there, Princess, Rodeo's pasture mate, has tried to get out the past two days Ive gone to get Rodeo, yesterday it was fine besides the fact that she ran be over, but today was horrid! Rodeo was also very good with his cut on his ear, he got it sometime yesterday, and he let me put some swat on it today!
Also, forgot, but the vet was out yesterday, and they LOVED Rodeo, they said he was TERRIFIC!! We'll see how good he is after I dont go out there for 2+ days. Going to WV tomorrow, and not coming back til Sunday.
