It has nothing but rained for at least the past week! Plus side, its been in the upper 70s, lower 80s, so cant complain too much I guess. We took Rodeo out to let him run around a bit, his area is wayyy too muddy for him to even be in really, we've had him in the dryer side area. It was wet and muddy out in the back field, but we went ahead and did some lunging anyways. We also led him up into the trailer quite a few times, he walked up like a champ! And walked out great too! I scheduled a vet appointment for Jan 7th, mainly for them to pull his coggins, but also because I want them to take a look at his teeth. He's losing muscle still, and with how much I feed him, it shouldnt be happening. Hes getting 4lbs of High Performance grain, and 5 big flakes a day, yes he doesnt have grass or hay 24/7 by my goodness, for not doing anything, he should be quite fat. So hoping its his teeth. Photos from today are below :D
Just set up an appointment to get Rodeo a freeze brand. Im pretty excited about it really, with all the traveling planned in the near future, this is something I feel will come in handy. Freeze brands deter people from stealing horses, as they are recognizable, and visable. Most likely Im just going to be getting my initials, nothing too fancy, but we'll see. Date is set for January 9th 2016. :D
Farrier finally came out yesterday, said Rodeo's feet are starting to look really good again! Yippee! Damn this soft ground here in NC, kills poor Rodeo's feet, but glad the shoes are helping. We decided to just shoe Rodeo's front feet, and see how his backs held up without shoes, so Im curious to see how they grow. We are going to buy our first horse trailer on Monday! Very excited! Although I wanted a 2horse with a tack room, or some storage, I am going for a stock trailer. I really like how open it is, and that I dont have to have Rodeo tied up when trailering him. Im hoping that this open bigger area of the stock trailer will help us in the long run when it comes to trailering Rodeo to Montana. With how far it is from here to Mt, Im thinking its going to be a 3-4 day trip at the least. So not looking forward to that, but the oppurtunites for us are endless out there! My GoFundMe has been shut down, I dont have a need to rescue a horse locally right now with everything going on. I will be looking into buying another horse when we move to MT, something good on the trails, or with the potential to be a good trail horse, wish me luck on that, I dont know why but the thought of purchasing a second horse is very frightening for me. I feel like its because I lucked out on Rodeo, that I couldnt possibly luck out again, but we will see. If the weather holds up nice tomorrow, Im hoping to be up in the saddle :D Hopefully we can get some photos :)
I saw a video on facebook rececntly where people had 3 poles set up in a square (obviously with 3 sides the square is not complete) so I decided to try the same thing. We started we a nice lunge, got him going pretty well, and I ended up hoping on. We just did some good trot work, he was pretty lazy today, most likely due to yesterday's come to Jesus moment, but he was still good today. Stands like a champ! Dirt bikes flying by, people walking by, bikes going by, cars flying by, he just stands there and takes it all in. We ended up doing a short little trot down the road, but his 2 shoes sounded funny so we didnt do too much of that. I work split shifts both Sat and Sun this weekend so doubt Ill get to work Rodeo too much but you never know. My search for a horse trailer has begun as well! And for the news! We are moving to Montana! Yes I said it, moving to Montana! Crazy right!? We are going to buy at least 20acres, if not more, fence some nice pastures in, have some nice trails all over, get another horse, possibly 2 and go from there!! Plans arent certain as to where and when yet but we are putting the house up for sale here in NC shortly and beginning the move across the country, 3000mi away! Wish us luck!
Had the farrier scheduled today, but things came up and he wasnt able to make it. He was originally supposed to come out @ 2:30, so I went out at 2:05, brushed Rodeo, picked his feet, and just wanted to lunge him a bit, nothing stenuous, I just had a regular lead line on, didnt want to get into too much of a workout before the farrier came, well that didnt work either. Rodeo tossed his head, struck out, bucked, I had had enough. Went and got my lunge line, hooked it up and off he went, did a lot of canter work, more than we have done in a VERY long time but honestly it was good for him! After his come to Jesus moment, he was outstanding! I did some desenitizing with the rope, walked around him, he was great! We ended up waiting on the farrier together for about 25min when I decided he was being way too good to have to stand and wait forever, so I put him up, came inside and found out the farrier wasnt coming. :( Oh well, had an outstanding day with Rodeo even though it wasnt supposed to go quite that way. He really got it fas though, he was forward, had his head down, extending, just looked outstanding! So wish I had had the camera to have gotten some photos and or videos, but really proud of how the day ended with him! Farrier is supposed to come out sometime next week. Besides that, not a whole lot going on, things are about to progress very rapidly with the move thats in store for us! Very exciting to let everyone know exactly whats going on but until then have a great night! :D
A local horse in need of some help has been found! He is a TWH, not the one I posted on previously though, but he needs help as well as the owner! Please help me raise some money so I can go and help this sweet boy! Theyre only asking $300 for him, so if I could come even close to that I could come up with the remainder of the costs of getting him here and vet costs and food costs. Please just help me get the intial purchase price! As for Rodeo, farrier was supposed to come out today but things got kinda hectic, so we rescheduled for tomorrow. Rodeo is getting front shoes put on. If all goes well here shortly when we move Rodeo's feet should harden up a good bit again and we wont need shoes! So I need help. I recently came across an ad on facebook. A woman was trying to sell her horse to get him into a better home, the sad thing was, she wanted what she had in the horse, no ifs, ands, or buts. I was willing to take him and help get him to where he needed to be, but she would not budge, she wanted $400 for the poor little guy. He was a 10yr old TWH, looked like he could really blossom into something gorgeous. Sadly, I didnt have thr $400 to give her, or the money to get the vet out right away to take a look at the guy. Luckily some other nice people scooped him up, paid the $400 and got the poor guy out of a bad situation. This got me thinking, I havent told anyone about this yet, but we are moving by the end of summer. Location is known, but I will not disclose the location until we are packed up and on our way, but I can tell you it is a 20acre amazingly gorgeous piece of land you can only dream of. With that being said, I need to help at least one horse get out of a bad situaion while I still can(while Im still here). There are horses everywhere that need help, but Im looking to help a horse around me, a local horse that needs my help! So please donate to my GoFundMe and lets make this possible! Help me save a horse that people just dont care about anymore. Help me bring home a friend for Rodeo, and give a horse a chance to live up to his potential! Im only asking $500! Thats not much and I know we can do it!
So havent been doing a whole lot lately, we have been working or playing every other day, so we're making progress. Been doing a lot of ground work still, some small jumps, mainly lungeing. We have done some more saddle work though. I actually switched bits and bridles yesterday, and that was a nice change. We usually ride in a Full Cheek Snaffle, which is what I used when I started becuase Rodeo used to play with his bit and move it from side to side a lot, but I think its time to switch to something that doesnt cover have his face, LOL. So we'll see how it goes. :D
