With all the hot weather, and rain yet again, I really havent done much with Rodeo. I feel that if I think it is too hot, than its far too hot for him, not to mention when hes out grazing, hes covered in sweat, so havent done a thing. But a few days ago, I ordered a new lunge line, and a new fly mask online! They came in today! And of course, I cant use the fly mask because it looks like its going to down pour any second, but I did use the lunge line! He did exactly what I thought he wou
After all the rain, and then the insanely hot weather, I literally have not done anything with Rodeo except for feed and water the poor guy! But today, Im off, and up early, and decided to go for a ride while it was still somewhat cool, keep in mind somewhat cool is 89 degrees at 10am! Luckily, I beat the heat for the day, and we even had a nice sprinkle during the ride. I passed the house two doors down, they have a pregnant mare, and a pony. I was about 40% done with the ride I had in mind, when next thing I know, the pony is trotting up the road with a rider. Rodeo picked up a nice trot, and we trotted down to the end of the road, turned around, and continued. When we got to a certain point, I gave him the go ahead to canter, and then proceed into a gallop back to the house, we blew that man and the little pony away! And Rodeo and I went yet again the fastest we have gone, which to be honest, really isnt that fast. I have no idea what happened to the speed that he has in his family, but he didnt get any!
After I got to the house, I turned around, and the man was now on his pregnant mare, not very far along I might add as well, we did the same thing, but only went half as far, he took off on his little mare, Rodeo picked up a smooth, slow, relaxed lope, and we were left in the dust. But thats okay, at the end of the ride, is the way I want him to be 24/7, well under saddle anyways, hes already like that on the ground. But it was a lot of fun! I have to either get a farrier out, or go ahead and put my schooling to use and do his feet m
Had my mom come out and take some more pictures of me riding. It was awfully hot, and since I have to work tonight, this was the latest I was able to ride. Got going the fastest we have gone yet, but really not wanting to do anything in this intense heat, and although I made him do what I asked, I wasnt asking a whole lot, as I was really hot as well. Hes doing pretty well at the lope, but whenever someone else is out there with me, he tries to run to them, and stop, or change direction to go stand by them, so I sometimes have to have a little bit tighter of a rein while were loping than I would like, other than that, I try to give him as much rein as possible, and I feel like he likes it a lot more.
Poor guy got sunburn for the few hours I didnt have his fly mask on right by his eye in the sun, so sunblock, and flymask everyday from now on until this crazy sun gives in a little. I was able to find hay yesterday! Was getting really worried, as the only hay I could seem to find was an hour plus away, and I really couldnt do that. I found hay less than 5min from my house, who has hay all year long, horse quality! Good thing, because Rodeo ate all of the grass out back! Plans are in motion to fence in the side yard as well. And although, he wont be able to be out there at night, he will be able to be out there during the day, and give his lot, and the grassy lot a break while I switch him around a bit. Hopefully after we fence that in, we will be able to build a decent shelter for the guy to get out of the weather!
Now that the rain has stopped, even though it was supposed to continue, it is crazy hot here! I wasnt able to ride Rodeo until 8pm, and even then it was still pretty warm. I had my husband come out and take some photos. Rodeo is great out on the trail, pretty much he'll go where you tell him to, but when it comes to the more technical stuff, circles, collection, head carriage, and all that fun stuff, hes not all that great. So we'll need to work on it, which is what we did today. Need more work for sure, but he can walk in a circle! Some pics are included :D
Rain is forecasted in our area everyday for the next week! I decided to hop on Rodeo bareback for a quick ride in the yard with his bosal on. Hes not a fan of it at all, thats for sure, and honestly, although I love the split cotton reins that came with it, Im not so sure Im a fan of it either. Love the look of them, and he did fairly well with it, but I think Ill js
